14 deviants said Perhaps you could get on for a few hours every day so I can say hi every once in awhile.
9 deviants said Nah, you do what you feel like. IMing is distracting and time consuming anyhow.
5 deviants said Eh, you could get on for a few hours a week or something. Just as long as you actually get on SOMETIMES.
5 deviants said I don't have IM or talk to you so it doesn't matter.
3 deviants said You need to be online 24/7 (even if you are invisible) I never get the chance to talk to you!
3 deviants said No, I hate you. Go away.

Speaking from personal experience, I used to be online many hours a day, and was considered one of the most accessible people on the net according to those who knew me; I even had a private land line (in the prehistoric days before I acquired a cell phone) just in case people needed a shoulder to lean on.
Eventually, my real life social life suffered (not that I had much of one back in New York, anyway), but I learned the hard way that a balance should be struck: be online enough to answer people and not be a stranger, but don't spend all your time online to the point where you're not seeing people in the flesh and blood.
Right now, I'm online in the evenings and weekends because I live in the middle of the dessert and getting anywhere worthwhile takes me at least 30 to 60 minutes. ;-p
And yes, I know I'm answering survey questions from many months ago, but...
1> I'm having a bout of insomnia.
2> Your questions are actually engaging and thought-provoking...even the Epic Earth-Shattering Macaroni and Cheese Question...Hell, if I can put up a "YEAH?" survey, you're more than entitled to post a noodles and fake cheese question.
Anyhoo, keep pluggin' away, I'm outta here...
