Portfolio: Phase 1

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 11, 2012, 2:27 AM

And the madness begins!

What madness you ask? Why the final stretch of my animation student career and the Art Institute of Colorado kind of madness.

Granted my graduation date is 9 months out, but nonetheless I have begun the process of addressing my final portfolio, demo reel, and animated short. Whew. I'm mentally prepared to face A LOT of work in the coming months. The most obvious supplement of my portfolio was revealed to you guys at the beginning of the month- my 2012 costumery project of Theod the raptor-alien. Or alien raptor? What sounds better? Whatever, we'll just call him a raptor for simplicity.

So Theod will play a major role in my portfolio, if not be the focus of my animated short itself. I will of course keep you all updated on the major Theod-related news on deviantART, but one thing I am striving to do with this project is to keep a sort of journal/project tracker/log/blog that covers the minor things as well. This will only be found on my WordPress blog. The address for that being caninehybrid.wordpress.com. Every thought, idea, update, picture, and video related to my portfolio project as a whole will be documented there for those who are interested in following the project. The reason I'm doing this is because my teacher has assigned us to blog about our projects- which I think is a great idea anyways.

I am going to warn you now that in terms of the Theod costume project, there WILL be some trade secrets involved and out of respect for the masterminds behind helping me bring this project to life, I will be strategically documenting the build process as to preserve some of that mystery. Don't worry, I'll still be taking oodles of pictures and hosting regular Livestream sessions like always, but if I tell you that I cannot disclose how a certain technique was achieved, please don't ask me about it further. Thank you for understanding.

Of course Twitter/Facebook will give you the most timely updates about everything, but by now you should know all about how to effectively stalk me so I won't advertise it further! XD

Phase 1

So each "phase" of my portfolio, as I call it, refers to how the classes are structured: the first class that I am taking now being pre-production. This is all the storyboarding, shot list, music, sfx, character design, planning, production schedule, etc etc are developed and put into an animatic at the end of the quarter. Naturally phase 2 is production, which is where I finish my costume, start filming, modeling, rigging, texturing, animating, etc to get the bulk of my project produced. Phase 3 wraps up my final three months at the art institute with the post-production stage where I polish everything up, composite everything together, and end up with a finished piece to graduate with so I'll go make lots of money. Or at least that's the idea anyways.

This means the Theod costume has to be done rather quickly if I want to be on top of this. Not to mention I have to start looking for an internship for next quarter. As if I had enough to deal with in my life right? On top of the school stuff I still have the Charizard partial to finish and commissions to catch up on. Once again my offer stands if you'd like a refund for your commission and you are tired of waiting, please let me know.

That'll do it for now, catch you later!

Well, mine has nothing to do with costuming. ^.^';

It's a dog training blog for my business webpage.
I just happened to get it about the same time you got one. :D

It's lacking content right now, but soon, it shall have...stuff!

Hey, good luck with this! With your amazing costuming skills, I'm wouldn't be surprised if you were one of the best students in this assignment! :)

Also, the "keeping trade secrets secret" part is a smart move! Lots of people don't seem to think ahead these days, lol. ^_^
