A: January 12, 1990. Now give me presents.
Q: Where are you residing?
A: I live in a house, in the capital city of Denver, in the state of Colorado, in the United States, in North America, on the planet Earth, in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. There, now you can stalk me :/
Q: Who are your siblings?
A: I'm the oldest child who got all the visual art talent! I have a sister Katie, whom I'm 18 months apart from, got the science/nature/health passion. She's majoring in anthropology at Colorado University at Boulder and I believe also wants a nursing degree so she can dedicate her life to helping others achieve better health through natural solutions. And my brother Rey, who is 4 years younger than me, got the technology/math smarts who also loves parkour, poi, and playing the guitar. He's attending the prestigious engineering college Colorado School of Mines and aims to become a software engineer/programmer.
Q: Taken or Single?
A: Taken. I currently have my boyfriend Verlis as of October 27, 2012. I also have what I call a "lifemate" which is like deepest best friend connection for life kind of relationship with Koji formally known as Taro or Jack.
Q: Who are your roommates?
When I lived at the dorms, my bestest friend from high school, Ani was my roommate for 3 years and we had all sorts of the crazy adventures that we became infamous for having. My best college friend Ceil was a former roommate as well as my sister with her ex-boyfriend. I've had 3 other past roommates, Felicia, Daniel, and Margo, that you never saw.
Q:Who are the guests on your Livestreams?
The most common people you'll see on my Livestreams are my 4 roommates, but I often am visited by my oldest friend Sorin and my brother Rey. In the past I have also had Rooth, Kampfer, Draga, Rek/Keni, and Mer.
Q: Where do you go to school?
A: I'm majoring in animation at the Art Institute of Colorado.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: At the moment, I do not. I am highly interested in getting a Blue Tongue Skink in the near future for myself. Both of my family pets are no longer with us- my dog Charlie, a male smooth coat border collie, who was a rescued sweetheart came into our family when I was nine (1999) and who passed away July 25, 2012. He was the best dog I've had the pleasure to know and I have photos of him here in my gallery: [link]. Then there was Solo the female Goffin Cockatoo, who decided she didn't like anyone and picked out half her feathers from stress no matter what we did to help. She was 1 year of age when we got her from a family friend in 2005 and after about 4 years gave her back to the original family where we thought conditions would have been better, but recently learned that she passed away in 2011 at an extremely young age for a bird. I've had a few fish and some triops over the years too.
Q: When did you create your first costume?
A: I made a Lugia costume when I was ten years old out of construction paper (2000). I also made a Zaptos for my brother to match. Here's a photo of me wearing it at my 11th birthday party :3 [link]
Q: What inspired you to start making costumes?
A: It was my best friend *Starmuttani and the ambitious cosplay project of dressing up as her Flygon character for our local convention, NDK in 2006. The idea of making your own, custom character to wear at a convention sounded like such a fun idea! So myself, Ani, and *NightTwilightWolf all decided for the following year's con we'd all go as a group of Pokémon together. I started researching tutorials and tips online... which was way easier said than done because very few resources were around back then. I used tutorials from Matrices for balaclava moving jaw heads. Eventually Kaida the Charizardmorph was born, though the costume debuted wingless because the first pair I made was a flop and had to be finished at a later date. However the whole project was still a success- mostly due to the fact that I credit it being the single largest learning experience to date... having taught myself how to sew, work with foam and 3D shapes, play with the idea of designing a "wearable sculpture", created fabric patterns, and problem solve everything in general. The process was so much fun and the end result so worthwhile, that it allowed me to continue a tradition of creating a new one every year afterwards... increasing the complexity and quality with each project.
Q: Where did the name "CanineHybrid" come from?
A: "CanineHybrid" actually came about from an idea that my friends and I had. We had created an original role-playing game/collaborative story called "Eon"- which was about mutant experiments with magical powers. We thought "What if our characters had an online blog and wrote about events in their lives?" We had considered actually making real accounts for our characters on LiveJournal and type up fake posts from the point of view of our characters, though it never came to be. Still, we all chose usernames based on who our characters were in this role-playing game or what they might have picked as online handles... and funny enough they ended up being the main usernames Night, Ani, and myself now use for accounts today! My role playing character Riley is half dog and half human, hence "CanineHybrid". She had blue fire powers too, awww yeah.
However, the ultimate decision on how this became my main username is for many reasons all stacked up on one another. Besides the named being based on my character, it also makes a tribute to my love of werewolves and describes my personal connection to a canine-like identity (therianthropy). I have also had others describe me as "dog-like" in my actions, behavior, and personality for years. Even my old character, Tusami the dragon, was very dog-like in her anatomy and personality. It works as a business name to describe what I do as well- which is turn people into creatures through costumery, essentially making them half human, half whatever character they're portraying. I also think hybrids of anything can be really cool and creative. And then the best part about this name was that surprisingly the username had not been taken anywhere on the net prior... so I was able to establish a universal name to use on every website I'm a part of, which was something that was very important to me to have when switching to a new identity, as well as being extremely easy to read and remember. Finally I had been contemplating some changes to Riley the German Shepherd Dog to make her a little bit more hybrid-like lately, so "Riley the CanineHybrid" was born as character of a GSD combined with a dinosaur.
Q: Where do you work?
A: I'm a part-time team member at Jo~Ann Fabrics and Crafts, a popular arts and crafts chain in the US that specializes in fabric. Otherwise I run a part-time creative/freelance business specializing in creature costumes called CanineHybrid Creations. And I'm a full-time animation student, which is a job in itself.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Steel blue (#4682b4) and looks like this. It is the color of Riley's collar. Black, silver, and blue have always been my top favorite colors, especially when used together in a color scheme... and steel blue is a great representation of what all three mixed together would be like.
Q: What is your favorite Pokémon?
A: Aerodactyl, hands down. Favorite legendary is Lugia (Shadow Lugia specifically).
