Groudon Costume Concept by CanineHybrid Groudon Costume Concept by CanineHybrid
And here of course we have one of my next awesome costume projects: the legendary Pokemon Groudon! Rwar!

This is part of our Pokemon cosplay group for 2010 and will be worn by *ScratchingSouls. She has asked me to make the head for her in exchange for her beautiful sewing machine so I'll start working on it very soon; we've already purchased all the materials I'll need. I designed the head during my last UStream broadcast but took it a step further and got carried away with doing the whole thing ^^;

Hope you like it Rek, it's going to be a tough costume to pull off for your second time so good luck!

...Groudon is totally smexy and bad-ass, but his design was definitely challenging.

It was funny, but most likely very stressful for you guys! But even if you get unwanted popularity you will still get some wanted popularity ^^
So hopefully some good came out of that.

What will you be making it with? The design looks perfect, but seldom do people have the right materials. (^_^) I'm sorry to say, but I will definately GIVE PROPS to whoever makes their costume MORE REALISTIC--but alas that's just me. Good work thought.

Upholstery foam, a truckload of hot glue, fleece, vinyl, and a kind of suede. You can click the link in my signature to view the current progress :aww:

Holy shit. That's great. Though somehow the tape kinda ruins it for comfort, or endurance. But the foam makes it work. For me I get a little technical in theory, and I hope you have pores, or perforated materials, and some "ventilation" for you body to breath--besides the foam and fleece; by the way are you using "polar fleece?" Polar fleece is different from regular "cotton" fleece, for it's breathable and moisture resistant [hydrophobic], though if not flame retarded is QUITE. LOL! That's just advice coming from chemical engineering, who knows some NASA affiliates. LOL! But good luck.

Sorry, I meant to finish that it's QUITE flammable if not flame retarded. That's not great for Groudon... LOL. Now when you talk of suede, do you use a "napped" type of leather? Because just looking it seems ironic that you're using water absorbant materials with non-absorbant materials, such as the fleece (if polar). I assume this leather will be used for the ROUGH skin of Groudon. In that case be careful not to GET WET. Now since you are using porous materials, I hope you have some way of breathing through the suit.

Good job though. I hope it plays out for realism. ;-) Don't disappoint.

Finally getting back to a reply- I hadn't noticed this message until now so my apologies!

I ended up using a fabric called "velour knit" which is extremely soft and has a velvet-like quality to it.
And actually the costume is quite breathable! The only issue we have at this point has been with the hands- they're skin tight allowing heat and moisture to build up quickly. No way around this though. Mask ventilation and vision is superb, and the rest of the bodysuit is very comfortable both weight-bearingly and temperature-wise... because we built the foam far enough away from the body to allow for airflow.

So you get an update on what it looks like now, check out the video here: [link]

And the latest photos are still linked in my signature :3

OMG you actually went shopping in public in that thing (.O)0(O.)!?

LOL

I want to do my own (scaly) suit but never have the time. I was thinking of using a fully body cast and some molds for the face, and use some sort of armour design for the rest. As for the tail, well... Something functional.

But great job.
